Madras to Malaya Cafe Kulai offers a rich journey through authentic Indian cuisine right in the heart of Bandar Putra Kulai, Johor. This vibrant eatery specializes in Tamil flavors, serving dishes that balance tradition with fresh, bold ingredients. The menu is a celebration of classic staples like their renowned Thaali Set and Mysore Masala Dosa, alongside inventive treats such as the Madras Special Pizza—a delightful twist that reflects the fusion of cultures.

Located on Jalan Seri Putra, the cafe greets diners with a semi-open-air setting that creates a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for casual meals or cozy gatherings. Their range of curry options—such as the succulent Mutton Curry and the flavorful Kothu Parotta with spicy chicken or egg curry—showcases the depth of South Indian culinary artistry. For first-timers, the low-spice Tomato Chicken and the intriguing mint thogayal provide an accessible introduction to the authentic flavors of Tamil Nadu.

Breakfast is a highlight at Madras to Malaya, with options like Poori sets and the samb noar vadai making for satisfying starts to the day. The cafe also serves freshly squeezed fruit juices and traditional beverages like Lassi and yogurt drinks, enhancing the dining experience with refreshing contrasts.

Authentic Tamil cuisine. Among a variety of dishes, I selected Indian style bitter gourd tempura, chicken cooked in tamato paste, and mint thogayal. Bitter gourds are crispy, flavourful with aroma of multiple spices. Unlike typical mamak stalls who sometimes like to recycle leftover fried chicken into some red-paste dishes, the tomato chicken was not reincarnated from something else. Unlike the reincarnated versions which are often overcooked and dry, the tamato chicken is soft and juicy. It is also having very low spice level, friendly to Indian cuisine beginner. Lastly, the mint thogayal is quite interesting. It is a blend of mint leaves, tamarind and some spices. It tastes a bit sour by itself. Though it is fine to eat together with white rice, personally I think it pairs better with plain naan. Only drawback is the restaurant is semi-open-air, hence flies can also visit freely. Needless to say, their presence while eating is irritating. In short, it is a restaurant worth revisiting.

Food - okay Service- some of the waiter isn't smiling, are they not paid well, do they miss thier families?? Or what's going in ? If the food served + smiling face = that's fabulous. Atmosphere - okay, tables could have been cleaned after the ppl left and floor was so dirty. Sink as usual unclean. 5/10 , if you ask me things can be improved. Take care of your staff, so they will take care of your business, Bro !

This restaurant is located in Bandar Putra Kulai. Exactly the opposite of Kulai Hospital. This is my first visit to this restaurant on 25.2.2024 I would say one of the best Indian restaurants in Kulai. Masala Thosai with chutney and chicken gravy was superb. Thosai, idly, poori & prata are served with thick chicken & fish gravy. Cutting tea has a different kind of taste. You will love it. The price is reasonable. Service was good, Clean and nice environment. Strongly recommended for those looking for an authentic Indian breakfast in Kulai.
